Charles Bazerman looks at the scientific article as a genre, addressing epistemological questions about the production of knowledge, the understanding of information based on the audience of readers, and the task of rhetorical analysis.  Bazerman examines Watson and Crick's article about the structure of DNA, Merton's writing on ambivelance, and Hartman's criticism of Wordsworth.
